The following advisory from KINGSTON TECHNOLOGY was made effective on Jan 5, 2010

Subject: USB Flash Memory security risks

It has recently been brought to our attention that there is a potential risk to the security of our DTBB, DTSP, and DTEP product. A skilled person with the proper tools and physical access to the drives may be able to gain unauthorized access to data contained on these drives in the event he or she maliciously targets one of these drives and data.

Kingston is working hard to resolve the issue with their technology provider to prepare and distribute a method which addresses the risk, a patch will be coming out by the end of the week (1/8/10). The patch which will enable the customers to correct it themselves instead of returning the product.

Please contact customer service hotlines at 1-888-484 -9112 (from the US or Canada), customers will receive instructions on how to deal with this situation.

DTSP/XXX
DTBB/XXX
DTEP/XXX

It is important to note that Kingston's other Secure USB drives - including the DTLocker, DTLocker+ and DTVP- are not affected and remain safe for storing data.
